If you’ve just landed here—welcome. I’m BDSmith. I’ve been making music for about 25 years, but really my whole life. For most of that time, it was a passion project I squeezed in around life: late nights in front of a DAW, weekend sessions, hundreds of half-finished ideas, and those rare moments when a track just clicks and you remember why you do it. In 2023, I decided to take it seriously—finish more, share more, and build something real from the sound that’s been in my head since forever.
My background is rooted in electronic music, especially house. I love the pulse, the patience, the way a groove can carry you without needing to shout. Over the years I’ve dabbled in other corners of EDM—drum and bass, some pop-leaning experiments as well as my core experience as a rap producer—but house was home base for a long time. It taught me the value of rhythm, restraint, and making small choices that add up to big emotion.
Now, I’m stepping into synthwave.
Why synthwave?
It’s the perfect intersection of nostalgia and forward motion. The textures—neon pads, punchy snares, driving basslines—feel familiar, but there’s room to bring pop sensibility and modern polish into it. I’m drawn to that “fresh but familiar” space: cinematic, melodic, sometimes chill, sometimes high-energy, always emotional. If you’re into artists like The Midnight, FM-84, or Kavinsky and Aisle 9, you’ll probably feel right at home with what I’m building. It also helps that I was born in the late 80s and the synthwave vibe is just kind of a part of me.
What you can expect from me
- Singles, not albums (for now): I’m focusing on one song at a time and releasing consistently.
- Synthwave with pop edges: hooks you can hum, drums that move, and melodies that feel like a late-night drive.
- Occasional vocals: I’ll be experimenting with vocoders and vocals to add color and story.
- Visuals with neon + space vibes: I’m developing a cohesive look that matches the sound—cinematic, retro-futuristic, and a little dreamy.
Where I’m headed
I’m all-in on growing this project: dialing in my mix/master workflow, leveling up arrangement and sound design, and—big one—getting the music heard. That means more releases, more behind-the-scenes content, and building a real community around the songs. Long-term, I’d love to expand into sync (Commercials, film) and eventually offer production support and education for other artists.

A note on beginnings
Even with 25 years of music behind me, this still feels like a beginning—just a more intentional one. If you’re reading this, thanks for being early. I’m excited to share this journey with you, track by track.
Stay tuned—new music soon.
